Thorns of A Rose is a Memoir about the life of Khalilah Purnell. It serves as a narration of the road the author had to travel on her journey from Pain to purpose, from being molested, and physically abused by her mother's boyfriend from 8-12 years of age, the drug addiction of her mother, and being abandoned by her mother at a young age, as her mother chose drugs and a man over her children. By 5th grade, Khalilah knew everything there is to know about sex with someone of the opposite sex. She endured things no child ever should have to experience.
It is a fact-based story that shows the thoughts of how a Rose filled with thorns was able to bloom and continues to grow, with an unlocked heart, with purpose.
Thorns of A Rose serves as a voice of healing for the author because now she can speak freely and tell her testimony, but it also serves as a voice and path to healing for other youth and adults who are going through or has gone through a similar story to the author, or one we could never imagine. It also serves as an eye-opener for parents who may not know the signs of their child being touched or abused.
